Hair Transplant
Hair transplant surgeries involve the removal of hair from the back of the head and application of those hairs to the areas of hair loss. The fringe (back and sides of hair on a balding scalp), is known as donor-dominant hair and is the hair that will continue to grow throughout the life of most men. Hair transplantation surgery techniques have improved by leaps and bounds over the past decade. Single hair-, micro-, and mini- grafting are some of the hair grafting methods, which are now available to patients. These different hair graft methods have brought about the creation of natural looking hair for people with varying and unique hair transplant needs.
Single hair-grafts have the finest and softest appearance. They do not provide much density, but they do provide a critical soft hairline that is the transition to thicker hair.
Micro-grafts are small grafts containing two to three hairs, which are placed behind the hairline to provide gradually increasing hair density.
Mini-grafts contain four or more hairs, which are placed well behind the hairline so that the single hair and micro-grafts can blend naturally into the density provided by these larger grafts.
Modern hair transplantation surgery is comfortable, predictable, and the results are pleasing to patients. A patient may be subject to certain side effects such as mild pain or discomfort after the procedure, the formation of tiny scabs over the grafts which take approximately one week to resolve and swelling which may be minimized with medication. However, the occurrence of any serious post-surgery side effects such as bleeding, scarring and infection are rare. |
